My Gradation System

All the freehands which leave my workshop are in an absolute first-class, immaculate, and technically perfect condition. If you handle the pipes appropriately, excellent smoking characteristics are consistently guaranteed. The classifi cation into different gradation levels represents an important basis for the prices.Primarily, the gradation evaluates the external characteristics of my pipes. The interplay of form, color and surface in some pipes is more harmonic and exceptional than in other pipes. The classification into the various gradation levels is carried out by myself, according to my experience and my subjective impression.It is not possible to measure it objectively.

   smooth surface with regular grain or sandblast.

   smooth surface with small spots or flaws and nice grain or also sandblast with ring grain.

   like category "four", but with small, almost unnoticeable sand spots or flaws.

   is the highest category: It is the perfect interplay of shape, color and surface in connection with an immaculate straight grain, cross grain or bird´s eye grain.

which is something very special. A "five“ is either superior than a "four“. Or it is so unique that it is not possible to classify it into any of the existing categories. A "five“ is something for real specialists.
